About the NIJGA
The Northwest Indiana Junior Golf Association (NIJGA) was formed in January of 2002 to positively impact the lives of youth in Northwest Indiana and surrounding areas by providing and linking them to a variety of affordable golf opportunities. The golf experiences will expose the juniors to the life long lessons that are learned subtly through playing the game of golf.
In addition to hosting junior events, the NIJGA serves as a clearinghouse for parents and juniors who are looking for information on junior instruction, clinics, and tournaments in Northwest Indiana.
The NIJGA is a web-based association. All administrative tasks are conducted through the website including: registration, confirmation, starting times, results, and rules of play. Payments for membership fees are made by making a check payable to NIJGA and mailed to PO Box 2602 - Chesterton, IN 46304.
You will find the information on this website to be consistent with that of the Indiana Golf Association. We see that NIJGA as a feeder program to their statewide events. Similar to the IGA, the NIJGA tournaments will be divided into three major categories: The junior tour, the major tour, and the varsity tour.
The Junior Tourand the Major Tour are designed for golfers who play golf on their own on a regular basis. All players must be able to keep their own score, have an understanding of the rules and etiquette, carry their own clubs or pull cart for nine or eighteen holes, and shoot 75 or better for nine holes. The junior tour is for children ages 7 - 12 and the major tour is for those ages 13 - 18. Members may participate in up to six events.
The Varsity Tour was designed for 15 - 18 year old boys and girls who qualify based on their playing ability. Courses are set up at an average of 6,700 yards for the boys and 5,400 for girls.
All NIJGA members in their first year must attend a Mandatory Orientation. Classes will be an hour in length and will cover the basic rules of golf, NIJGA local rules, and procedures. Parents are also encouraged to attend. A schedule can be found in the schedule portion of the website. All participants must attend prior to competing in a tournament.
Membership in the NIJGA is $100 for the Junior, Major, and Varsity Tours. The Junior, Major, and Varsity memberships include a NIJGA bag tag, and entry into up to six tournaments.
Registration is done on the website. Priority is given based on the number of years that the junior has been a member. A list of "Member Since" will be available under the main menu. The following outlines registration priority:
